The Carnival Season Finale: Limassol’s Grand Parade

The Carnival Season Finale: Limassol’s Grand Parade

Limassol Carnival held its spectacular finale this afternoon – the Grand Parade. We joined hundreds of carnival-goers who lined Archbishop Makarios III Avenue to watch the parade of 100+ groups and floats. Spectators and paraders were dressed in every costume imaginable – dancing, singing and spraying Silly Spray at one another. It marks the end of 10 days of festivities that started with the crowning of the Carnival Queen. Tomorrow is Green Monday when people fast for 50 days leading up to Easter, abstaining from meat and dairy products.

The Grand Parade lasts for hours – we stayed for three. Colour, sparkles, laughter and fancy dress = MASSIVE Photo-Fun!

Hi, I'm Julia

I love travelling and have been all over the world with my husband, Matt. Going home always sucked. I wanted more – I wanted to live abroad. When my son Goobie was born, I took a career break from publishing books in London. So, when Matt’s job gave us the opportunity to move to Cyprus, we grabbed it with both hands, ready to embrace everything Cyprus has to offer. Follow us as we explore this amazing island, from the beautiful to the baffling, the exciting to the downright embarrassing.
